Business Leaders Malta (BLM) is launching an online remuneration survey, at www.salariesinmalta.com, in the near future, which will cover a wide range of roles.

Operations director Anton Buttigieg said that there are other surveys which are issued once a year, whereas the BLM survey will upload data in real-time to give an up-to-date snapshot of the situation in the rapidly-evolving job market.

The portal, which represents a €30,000 software investment, will be open to subscribers who could be either students seeking career options, employees wanting guidance of what to expect or employers wishing to benchmark their packages.

Mr Buttigieg and his former colleague Morgan Parnis have now joined BLM as shareholders, bringing considerable experience to this company.

They will be taking over the day-to-day operations.

BLM was the brainchild of Gianni Zammit and Joe Said, together with Steve Tarr, currently the BLM chairman. Five years ago, they realised the need for conferences to be given an innovative “edge”, such as interactive sessions, and their first conference was such a success that they decided to make it an annual event, on the last Friday of every February. Each conference has a different theme, with next year’s being growth. BLM also organises monthly half-day meetings on specific topics, aimed at smaller groups of around 30-40 people.

However, the experience of the people behind BLM prompted delegates to ask for other services, such as the surveys, and market research. Mr Parnis said BLM was also looking at the latter over the coming months, hoping to offer a service which would help to capture emerging trends.

“Our idea is to create an online community of thousands of people, from which we would then be able to create the right mix of consumers for the particular market research, whether the criteria are social, geographical, economic, gender or age related, for example,” Mr Parnis said.

“There is a certain amount of respondent fatigue when it comes to surveys so we have to find a new approach where the participants can get something back.”

The intention is to offer the ‘panels’ to other companies wishing to do research – not only in Malta but also overseas.
