The Broadcasting Authority yesterday charged PN-owned Net TV for broadcasting images of PN leader Lawrence Gonzi meeting candidates of various localities including Mosta and Safi.

The BA had last month issued instructions on what is permissible to air during the so-called day of reflection and voting day.

“These images breach the directive (issued in February) and cannot be aired again,” CEO Pierre Cassar wrote in a letter to media manager Louiselle Vassallo.

He pointed out that various warnings were given to Ms Vassallo, general secretary Paul Borg Olivier and news editor Nathaniel Attard, but the warnings were all ignored.

The authority will in the coming days decide whether to fine the party over the broadcasts.

Mr Cassar said a number of other warnings were given to both stations in recent days for minor infringements, but this was the only case of a formal charge being issued following ignored warnings.
