The Ministry for Gozo refers to an article relating to the publication of the National Audit Office’s annual report (December 15).

We regret to note the unjustified subtitles and remarks that refer to the reported irregularities connected with the Ministry for Gozo’s operations. Details regarding the Ministry for Gozo’s operations in the 314-page report may be found between pages 192 and 201 (10 pages).

...immediate remedial action has already been taken

Had the reporter referred to the last four of these 10 pages, he would have also noted the recommendations and management comments that include reservations in justification of several points duly raised by the ministry. He would also have noted that upon certain raised issues immediate remedial action by management has already been taken.

The Ministry for Gozo’s remit encompasses all socio-economic sectors in Gozo including education, health, infrastructural projects, the implementation of the eco-Gozo action plan, tourism, coordination of major works and other issues related with EU-funded projects.

The ministry is committed towards conducting its operations within an accountable and accurate framework. The shortcomings highlighted in the Auditor’s report do not justify the unjust manner in which they were reported in the article.
