The Malta Veterinary Association has strongly condemned the arson attack on the private Mosta clinic of vet Anthony Gruppetta, who is also a director general within the Ministry for Rural Affairs. The front door of the clinic in Grognet Street was destroyed when it was engulfed in flames in the early hours of Saturday morning in what police suspect was arson.

St Simon’s Veterinary Clinic belongs to Dr Gruppetta, who is the director general of Agriculture and Fisheries Regulation. Another vet, Mauro Buttigieg, also works at the clinic.

They police are investigating the case and want to establish a possible motive.

They were alerted to the blaze at 5.30 a.m. on Saturday. The flames were put out by a policeman using a fire extinguisher. A car that was parked nearby was damaged by the heat from the flames.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera is holding an inquiry into the case.
