In reference to Mario Dingli’s letter There Are No Atheists (October 28), I would like to inform him and other readers that I, among others, certainly exist and I do not hate any god. I do not even hate Mr Dingli, who denies my existence and attributes to me emotional states which do not exist.

In my opinion, which I do not force on anyone nor have killed or murdered those who do not agree with it, there is no god and no proof of his existence. To those who attribute the Universe as proof of god I remind them that there was a time when the earth was the centre of the universe but now we have enough proof that we are not only not at the centre of the universe but exactly at nowhere special. To those who attribute morality to religion I say to open any history book.

Wars, with all their associated appendages, were fought in the name of a religion. Where is the morality in that?

I choose to be atheist not because I hate god but because there is no proof s/he exists. I do not attribute anything I do not understand to a superstition-based entity.

Instead I look for answers through reason and logic. I do not live my life in a good manner, loving my brother like I do myself, because it is written in a book. I do it because it makes sense. We are a collective species who depend on one another – Q.E.D. When I die I will not go to heaven, or hell. I will simply have died. My body will cease to be. However my spirit will live eternally in the thoughts of others, affecting their spirit in even slight ways, as they will in turn affect others... for eternity.

I could go on forever (a couple of centuries perhaps) giving reasons why I choose to be who and what I am. But not here today. I only wanted to tell Mr Dingli that I exist.
