An art exhibition showcasing the works of five acclaimed Maltese artists following a sojourn in China is currently on show at the China Cultural Centre (CCC) in Malta.

This is the fifth consecutive year that Inspired in China has been organised. This annual event is part of the CCC’s bilateral exchange activities, featuring masterpieces by local artists specialised in various genres, which depict their first-hand experiences and impressions of China.

On the one hand, Inspired in China pursues the CCC’s objectives to support cross-cultural dialogue and development of collaborative relations between artists and cultural organisations in China and Malta. On the other hand, it seeks to capture and reveal the face of present-day China through the eyes of Maltese artists, translating their perceptions on China’s unique character and transformation, confluence of multiple ethnic and regional cultures, melding of time-honoured traditions and progressive modernity, as well as its timeless scenic beauty and the warm charm of its people, into a wide-spectrum visual narrative.

Over the years, several representatives of Malta’s flourishing diverse art world have participated in this initiative, transforming their trip around China into a journey of creativity, which has injected vitality into the local art scene.

This summer, by invitation of the Ministry of Culture of China and on the recommendation of Arts Council Malta, Spazju Kreattiv and the Art Discussion Group, CCC selected five highly accomplished local artists to visit China’s capital, Beijing, and the Province of Henan: Alex Attard, Simon Barthet, Catherine Cavallo, Antoine Farrugia and Darren Tanti.

■ Inspired in China is open to the public until December 23 at the China Cultural Centre in Valletta from Monday to Friday, from 9am to 12.30pm and from 2.30pm to 5pm (excluding public holidays). Entrance is free. For more information, call 2122 5055 or email maltaccc@gmail.com.
