Transport Minister Austin Gatt on Wednesday acknowledged in Parliament that the European Commission had written to the Government requesting information and clarifications on the set-up of Arriva tariffs.

Dr Gatt explained that this was the stage at which the EC started its investigations with a view to deciding if formal procedures should be started for infringement of the community laws.

He said the Government had already replied to the Commission’s request. Since this was a preliminary stage, he declined to make documents public.
