Although Arriva has just received another 10 buses from the UK and the main tourist season in Malta has not even started yet, how is it that every bus I want to catch is always packed full?

The other day I was pleased to get what I thought must be the last available standing place but, no; the very considerate driver packed more and more people onto the bus, although there was really no room left at all.

May I suggest that if Arriva cannot supply enough buses in the quiet period of the year, they should at least supply such gallant drivers with rope ladders so that they can accommodate the rest of their would-be passengers on the rooftop. This is already happening in other countries as per the picture above. In addition, perhaps the Arriva personnel, who stand around at many bus stops, could lend a hand and help people get on the bus.

On my return journey, I managed to get the last seat on one of those that face people looking in the opposite direction. Every time the bus came to a sudden stop for no apparent reason, I was thrown into the lap of the person sitting opposite me and ended up with my arms round his neck. Although the old gentleman did not seem too upset with this unexpected attention, I really feel that if Arriva cannot train its drivers to slow down gently, they should at least provide us with seat belts.

Sorry Arriva, but I’m afraid you still haven’t quite got your act together!
