I want to commend The Times on the editorial of November 4, A Resignation In Time Saves Embarrassment, with the exception of the last part, where The Times hinted that party loyalty takes precedence before anything else.

I do not agree with this comment as the way I see things, a politician must be loyal to his principles, country and constituents in his/her district.

In this particular case Franco Debono, besides sounding the vociferous voice of most commuters, is mainly representing most of the people of both political creed in his southern district. I am a frequent public transport user and can assure everyone that the service is not good at all during important hours of the day. Buses do not respect time schedules and are already full up and packed like sardines as soon as they leave the old terminus.

I am an apolitical person and not interested in the political twist this problem has been given. All I know is that whoever was responsible for this mess lost no sleep over his fiasco and has the backing of the Prime Minister.

In this country we are making a shambles of what I understand of accountability.
