Architecture Project (AP) has been selected for the final of the Inside Festival of Interiors Awards, 2011.

The awards consist of 11 categories, of which AP has been shortlisted for the category of Creative Re-use. The architecture firm has been invited to present its project in front of an international jury. AP will be competing against other finalists for the overall award for World Interior of the Year.

The project submitted by AP is a new office space located on Valletta’s St Barbara’s Bastion. This project involved the remodelling of an old three-storey house into offices and residential space.

The need for separate entrances, and therefore, two staircases was the key design challenge for the architectural team. AP applied the concept of the ‘double-helix’ to the two staircases, thus enabling the entrances to be distinct, leading to the offices and residential unit separately, while the intertwining staircases were conceived as one sculptural mass.

The festival will be celebrating some of the most distinguished interiors and their designers, with the intention of discovering the finest interior space of the past year.

The Inside Festival will take place between November 2 and 4 in Barcelona, Spain.
