April lived up to its fame for showers last month, while the average temperature of 16.4°C was warmer than the official 30-year climate record of 15.5°C collected by the Malta Airport Meteorological Office.

A total of 28.8mm of rain fell, more than the 30-year climate norm of 22.5mm for the month of April.

The warmest day last month was the 10th, when the thermometer at the airport hit 23.8°C, and the coolest was the 21st, with 10°C.

Last month was also sunnier than usual, with an average of 8.5 hours of bright sunshine a day – a total of 18 minutes more sunshine than the official 1961-1990 record for April.

The Met Office urged the public to be more aware of the UV index forecasts, as these will soon start reaching high levels.
