Appoġġ is recruiting new volunteers for its Supportline 179 and Programm Ulied Darna services which support children, families and vulnerable adults in need.

Supportline 179 is a 24-hour service for people seeking help related to a wide range of problems including domestic violence, child abuse, suicidal tendencies, loneliness, emotional difficulties, behavioural problems, substance abuse, and gambling, among others.

Currently there are 80 volunteers who give their service to Supportline 179, supported by a team of professionals at all times, but more volunteers are needed especially during weekends, public holidays and during morning and evening shifts.

The Programm Ulied Darna service offers time, skills, friendship, information and practical help – such as working with parents on parental skills and other basic skills, such as budgeting, housekeeping and child care, assisting children with homework, and accompanying parents to appointments.

There are currently 57 volunteers in programme but more are needed, especially but not exclusively, to provide transport to children and families to important appointments.

People interested in joining the current team of volunteers with Supportline 179 or Programm Ulied Darna may visit www.appogg.gov.mt for more information, or call on 2295 9000 during office hours.

Application forms may be filled online, or downloaded and sent duly filled, to Svetlana Camilleri, Aġenzija Appoġġ, 36, St Luke’s Road, Guardamangia, PTA 1318. The closing date is August 17. Professional training will be provided.
