I was most pleased to read (December 1) that the Attorney General had successfully appealed against sentences handed down in the case of the hit-and-run driver who had seriously injured two teenage girls.
This same person had also had his prison term reduced for good behaviour (sic) which included setting fire to some items in his cell! There also seems to be an increasing number of lenient sentences, such as suspended sentences, against persons who physically assault police officers. Most law-abiding citizens find this unacceptable and would welcome appeals by the Attorney General also in such cases. The police have enough problems as it is and the last thing they deserve is to see their assailants leave the Court practically with impunity.
