I really feel sorry for the lovely Maltese people having to put up with the appalling bus service provided by Arriva all year round.

For example, passengers are often packed like sardines, bendy buses struggling to get round corners while buses regularly leave people waiting at stops for over an hour. When this happened to us we were told at Buġibba by an Arriva operative that the buses to Ċirkewwa are delayed due to school runs. This was 11am!

I would like to make the following suggestions:

Have limited stop services: for example, you should be able to get on the No. 12 from Valletta to Buġibba anywhere but not get off before the Pembroke park-and-ride turn off (there seem to be plenty of buses to Pembroke).

I would have thought that “X” means a faster, or less slow, service. As it is it takes an “X” bus one and a half hours from Qawra to the airport – the bus needs a toilet and drinks service on board!

What is wrong with having double-decker buses? You do not seem to have many low bridges. There is such a thing as a “lo-decker” double-decker to overcome most low bridge problems.

The infrastructure in general needs a lot of money to provide improvements. When I wrote a letter to this excellent newspaper last year someone replied: “When in Rome do as the Romans do.”

The Maltese deserve far better than that.

Incidentally, Air Malta is a brilliant airline. Staff and service cannot be faulted. Keep up the good work!
