Pope Benedict XVI has appointed Malta’s Apostolic Nuncio Tommaso Caputo as Archbishop of Pompei and pontifical delegate for the shrine of the blessed Virgin of the Holy Rosary of Pompei.
After five years of service in Malta and Libya, Mgr Caputo will be embarking on a new mission at a shrine that has a long history of devotion, mission and evangelisation through the prayer of the rosary.
In his new role, the 62-year-old, who is from Naples, will be responsible for the pastoral life of the archdiocese, as well as the devotional and charitable activities associated with the shrine.
Archbishop Paul Cremona and Gozo Bishop Mario Grech congratulated Mgr Caputo and thanked him for his constant support.
