The Institute of Maltese Journalists (IĠM) has condemned the anti divorce movement’s decision not to answer questions put by journalists during its press activities and called on it to change its position.

“Since Moviment Żwieg bla Divorzju is inviting journalists to the movement’s press activities, then journalists have a right and duty to ask questions to the movement’s leaders to clarify the movement’s own position,” IĠM said yesterday.

The council, it said, could not accept the movement’s excuse that journalists would be given the opportunity to ask questions during the press conference by the movement’s leaders as part of the political broadcasting scheme.

In a democratic society, journalists of different opinions had the right to scrutinise both movements’ positions by posing questions about controversial issues of interest to the public, like divorce.
