Malta has been selected as one of the three EU representatives on the foundation board of the World Anti-Doping Agency.

Sport Parliamentary Secretary Chris Agius is sitting on the board together with the sports ministers of Belgium and Luxembourg.

Established in 1999 as an international independent agency, its key activities include scientific research, education and development of anti-doping capacities. It also monitors the World Anti Doping Code, the document harmonising anti-doping policies in all sports and all countries.

The Maltese government said it considered representation on the board as an opportunity to renew its commitment in the fight against doping and a zero-tolerance policy towards cheating.
