A second man was yesterday charged with the attempted murder of his landlord after his friend was arraigned on Saturday and accused of hitting the victim in the back with a hoe the day before.

Joseph Borg, 21, of Siġġiewi, allegedly hit Antoine Saliba, his landlord, with a spirit level during a brawl between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. in Luret Cutajar Street, Żebbuġ.

Mr Borg’s friend, Silvester Zahra, 23, of Siġġiewi is pleading not guilty to attempted murder. He has been remanded in custody.

The fight allegedly followed an argument earlier in the day between Mr Borg and Mr Saliba over rent.

Mr Saliba suffered grievous injuries but was discharged from hospital at his own request.

Mr Borg was also remanded in custody. Police Inspector Tony Cachia prosecuted.

Lawyers Marion Camilleri and Franco Debono appeared for the accused.
