AZZOPARDI. On January 2, Prof. JOHN of Ealing, London, aged 83, died peacefully after a short illness, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He is mourned by his wife Sally, his children Timothy and Joanna and their families, his brother Paul in Adelaide, his sister Josephine Sammut and her children Peter, Gillian, Mary and Jackie and their families. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital at 9am on Saturday for St. Gregory church, Sliema, where Mass will be said at 9.30am followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations to the Ursuline Creche or to the Salesian church of St Patrick will be much appreciated.

BARTOLO. On January 16, at Little Sisters of the Poor, Ħamrun, Fr GABRIEL BARTOLO, OFM Cap., passed away peacefully, aged 86, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss the Franciscan Capuchin Friars, his brother Nazzareno and his wife Mary, Carmela, widow of his brother Carmelo, nephews, nieces and friends. Mass præsente cadavere will be said today at 9.30am at Kalkara Capuchin church, followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery.

BRINCAT. On January 15, at Mater Dei Hospital, ROSA, née Mifsud Speranza, aged 83, widow of Salvinu, Founder of Brincat’s Group of Companies, passed away suddenly, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her beloved children Marianne and her husband Lello Massa, Fransina and her husband Maurice Abela, Doris and her husband Tony Mangion, Mario and his wife Lucienne, née Sciortino, Gregory and his wife Kristine, née Borg Busuttil, Josette and her fiancé Martin, her sister Theresa wife of John Tennyson of Scotland, her brother Derek and his wife Lina, her in-laws, her beloved grandchildren Victoria, Giuseppe, Marianne and their spouses, Bernard and his fiancée Daniela, Andrew, Matthew, Claude and Diane, her great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces, relatives and friends. The funeral cortège leaves Mater Dei Hospital on January 19 at 2pm for St Catherine parish church, Żejtun, where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 2.30pm, followed by interment at Żejtun cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Id-Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be greatly appreciated.Sweet Jesus, grant her eternal rest.

BUSUTTIL. On the January15, Rev. Fr ANTHONY BUSUTTIL, former Parish Priest of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Parish, Sliema, passed away peacefully in Fairlight, Sussex, UK. He leaves to mourn his loss his brothers Joe, Frankie, and Victor. His nephews and nieces, his carers and other relatives and friends, especially the Franciscan Fathers OFM in London and Malta. His funeral will be held next week.

CASSAR. On January 15, CARMELO of Marsaxlokk, widower of Ines, aged 91, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his children Sister Marygrace of the Sisters of Jesus Nazareth, Maria and her husband Pio, Rosa and her husband Michael, Josephine and her husband Saviour, David and his wife Grace, Tarcisio and his wife Mary, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his sister Grace, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves St Vincent de Paul residence today at 3pm for Our Lady of Pompeii parish church, Marsaxlokk, where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 3.30pm, followed by interment at Tarxien cemetery. CASSAR. On January 15, SALVINU, aged 83, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church and surrounded by his family. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Theresa, his children Paul and his wife Mary, Miriam and her husband Mentino, Patrick and his wife Kathleen and Louis and his wife Sandy, his treasured grandchildren, his brothers and sisters, in-laws, other relatives and friends. CREMONA. On January 16, ĠUŻEPPI, widower of Tessie, née Quattromani, from St. Paul’s Bay, co-founder of Gillieru, aged 82, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church at Mater Dei Hospital. He leaves to mourn his loss his, children Tonio and his wife Margaret, Paul and his wife Theresa and Mariella and her husband Stephen Micallef, his grandchildren Edward, Robert, Joseph, Clarissa and Andrea, his sisters Dolor and her husband Anġlu Debono, Josephine, widow of his brother Frans, Vivie, widow of his brother Karmnu, his in-laws and their families nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 2.15pm from Mater Dei Hospital for Our Lady of Sorrows parish church, St. Paul’s Bay where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 3pm followed by interment at Mother of Mercy Cemetery, St. Paul’s Bay. Donations to Id-Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be greatly appreciated. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

MUSCAT. On January 6, at the Oncology Centre, Bristol, the city where he lived, born in Birkirkara, JOHN ALFRED, joined his parents and his sister Marie to the other life with the Risen Lord, after a short illness, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his irreparable loss his wife Victorya, his sons Benjie and Lotte, Sam and Shelly, and Robin and Lucie, and his five adorable grandchildren, his sisters and brothers Carmen, Richard (ex-MP and former ambassador), Joe of Australia, Lilian of UK, Frank, Agnes and Lawrence and their families, in-laws, cousins, nephews and nieces, relatives and friends. John’s body will be cremated in Bristol tomorrow. His ashes will be returned to Malta. Details of the funeral and Mass to be celebrated in Birkirkara will be announced at a later date.

PORTELLI. On January 14, at home, EUCARISTICO, aged 89, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family and comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his devoted wife Marise, his beloved children Joseph, Claire Micari and her husband Robert and Dr Angele Formosa, LLD and her husband Twanny, his grandchildren Lucas, Julian, Ġużeppi, Mikiel and Kristina, his siblings, Peppi, Rose and Victoria, his nephews and nieces, amongst whom Fr Frankie Bajada, other relatives and friends. The funeral cortège leaves Gozo General Hospital tomorrow at 3.30pm for Maria Bambina Collegiate Basilica, Xagħra, where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 4pm.
