Obituary

AZZOPARDI. On October 6, TARCISIO, aged 76 (retired nurse), passed away suddenly and peacefully at Mater Dei Hos-pital emergency department, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his great loss his beloved wife Grace, née Vella, his sons Anton and his wife Marthese and Joseph and his wife Sandra, his precious grandchildren Kate, Karl, Emma and Clare, his brotherand sisters, in-laws, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 3pm for Mosta parish church where Mass præsente cadavere will be concelebrated at 3.30pm Donations to Id-Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be greatly appreciated. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

CHIRCOP. On October 8, JOAN ANTIDA, aged 76, from Żebbuġ, ex-Assistant Head, Primary School, Rabat, Malta, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her sisters and brother, Ines and her husband Żaren, Mary, Dorothy and her husband Philip, Joe and his wife Doris, many other nephews and nieces, relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospityal today at 2pm for Żebbuġ parish church where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 2.30pm followed by interment in the family grave at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery, Żebbuġ. No flowers by request but donations to Id-Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be appreciated. The family regret they are unable to receive visitors at home.

GALEA. On October 7, at Mater Dei Hospital, MICHAEL, aged 80, died, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. Much loved and remembered by his loving wife Wendy, his children Martin and his wife Margaret, Joanna, Guy and his partner Katya, his precious grandchildren, great-grandchild, his sisters Alda and Marthese, nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Funeral Mass will be said at the Sanctuary of Divine Mercy, San Pawl tat-Tarġa tomorrow at 10am, followed by inter-ment at Santa Maria Addolorata eternal rest.”

AGIUS – JOSEPH. Treasured memories of a loving father and grandfather, today being the first anniversary of his passing away. So sadly missed by his children Mariella and Mario, Paul and Graziella, Victor and Deborah and Claudia, his grandchildren Michael and Elisa, his brother-in-law Alfred Mizzi and his wife Carmen. The 6.30pm Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish church, Balluta, St Julians, will be offered for the repose of his soul and that of our dear late mother Sally.

CALLEJA – MARY ROSE. Treasured memories of a dear mother and grandmother on the seventh anniversary of her demise. Fondly remembered and sadly missed by her children Edward, Claude and Suzanne and their respective families.

Talks on healthy marriage

A series of talks encouraging debate will be held at the Catholic Institute in Floriana as part of the project Żwieg b’Saħħtu (a healthy marriage), organised by the Cana Movement since 2008.

The first talk will be delivered today by Antoinette Laferla at 7pm, focusing on how the family is to form a community of people in mutual self-giving.

The talks also serve as a means of formation for leader couples of the marriage preparation courses.

According to Pope John Paul II, the ministry of the family as the church of the home is rooted in its identity, mission, tasks and responsibilities.

In Familiaris Consortio, he says the family has four fundamental tasks to undertake as a Christian family. These tasks will be covered in the talks, the second of which will take place on November 6. The following talks will be held on January 15, February 12 and April 30.

Road closed

Road works will be carried out along It-Telgħa t’Alla w Ommu (the hair pin bend) between 7.30pm tonight and 5am tomorrow, and again tomorrow night at the same times.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and to seek alternative routes through Mosta and Burmarrad.

There will be power cuts as follows today:

Talk on St John Statue

A talk, called A Study of the Polychrome Wooden Statue of St John the Baptist located at Dingli Parish Church, will be held at Din l-Art Ħelwa on Thursday at 6pm.
