The south sweats as power outage continues

Loss of power provoked widespread frustration in Paola, Fgura and Tarxien yesterday afternoon.

The outage, in the midst of a sweltering heatwave, has provoked widespread frustration. With temperatures reaching nearly 40°C, the people in the areas had to make do without fans and air conditioners. In some places, neighbours could be seen taking their chairs outside or sit on the doorsteps.

A spokesman for Enemalta said the cuts were caused by a fault in a feeder cable.

This is the second power cut in a week in the same localities following a cut, due to faults, in the distribution network on Tuesday, when it took almost three hours for the power to be restored.

Other areas have also been hit by summer power cuts this week, namely Msida, Gżira , Sliema, Birkirkara, Lija, Mosta and Attard.
