AQUILINA. On March 18, at Charella Home, CARMELO, aged 98, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his beloved niece May and her husband Roger, grand nieces and nephew, Josette, Patricia and Anthony and their respective spouses together with their children and granddaughter, all of whom he loved so much. The funeral Mass will be held today at 2.30 p.m. at Stella Maris parish church, Sliema, followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. FENECH. On March 18, at Mater Dei Hospital, MARY, residing in Balzan, passed away peacefully, aged 68, comforted by the rites of Holy Church after a long illness borne with Christian fortitude. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband Perit Albert, her mother Josephine Borg, her siblings Vivie and her husband John Ellul, George and his wife Jane, Maurice and his wife Elizabeth, Dennis and his wife Melina, Margaret widow of Joe Ellul, Antida and her husband Frank Portelli, Albert and his wife Diana, Martin and his wife Estelle, her in-laws, her many nephews and nieces and her friends from the MSSP Community. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 1.30 p.m. for the Oratory Chapel of Birkirkara (off the Birkirkara Bypass) where Mass præsente cadavere will be celebrated at 2 p.m. followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. ZAMMIT. On March 17, at Mater Dei Hospital, EDWARD, from Balzan, aged 86, passed away peacefully comforted by rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his daughter Josephine and Charles Calleja, his sons Domnic and Connie, Silvio and Helen, his grandchildren Lorna, Leonard, Maria, Jason, Ruth and Priscilla, great-grandchildren, his sisters Salvina and Iris, in-laws, relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital at 3.10 p.m. today for Balzan parish church where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 3.30 p.m. followed by interment at Balzan cemetery. Centenary of band success
This year, the King’s Own Philharmonic Society will be celebrating the centenary of the band’s successful performance at the Algiers’ international contest in April 1912.
To commemorate the event, the society is organising a concert of funereal music in Merchants’ Street, Valletta on April 5 at 9.30 a.m. and a Thanksgiving Mass with the participation of the Kappella Bugeja orchestra and Jesus of Nazareth Choir at St Dominic’s parish church, Valletta, on April 14 at 6 p.m. Also, a band march will take place in Valletta on April 21 at 10 a.m.
