CAMILLERI. On July 2, at St Vincent Hospital, Melbourne, Australia, JOSEPH, passed away peacefully, aged 69. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife Victoria, his children Noel and his wife Josette, Anton and his wife Ming Wai, living in Australia, his grandson Isaac James, his brothers Paul and Charles, his sister Silvia and their families, his wife’s family, other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held at San Ġwann parish church tomorrow at 3 p.m. May the Lord grant him eternal rest.

DEBRINCAT. On July 13, at Gozo General Hospital, RITA, née Camilleri, aged 67, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her daughter Joyce and her husband George Grech, her sons Raymond and Antoine and their respective wives JoAnne and Nataline, her grandchildren Janessa, Jean-Paul, Janet, Frederique, John-Luke and Ellyn-Rose, her brothers Coronato, Joseph, Emanuel and Charlie, her sister Ġjaċinta and their families, her in-laws, Mgr Francis Debrincat, Nancy and Evangelista Bajada, other relatives and friends. Mass præsente cadavere will be celebrated tomorrow at 5 p.m. at Għajnsielem parish church, followed by interment at Għajnsielem cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to the Arka Foundation, Għajnsielem, OASI Foundation, Victoria, or Hospice Malta, Balzan, would be greatly appreciated. May the Lord grant her eternal rest.

MERCIECA. On July 12, JESMOND, ex-AFM, aged 46, passed away suddenly, leaving to mourn his loss his wife Sina, his parents Carmelo and Maria, his brothers Mario and Darren and his sister Carol, his father-in-law Louis and brothers-in-law James and Kevin, together with their families, relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 8 a.m. for Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish church, Balluta, where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 8.30 a.m., followed by inter-ment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

Competition for journalists

The European Commission has launched the eighth edition of the EU Journalist Award – Together Against Discrimination!

The competition for print and online journalists focuses on discrimination and diversity issues within the EU and the award is meant to give recognition to journalists who contribute to a better public understanding of the value and benefits of diversity and the fight against discrimination in the EU.

The winner and the two runners up will receive vouchers with a value of €5,000, €3,500 and €2,500 respectively.

To be eligible, articles must have been printed or posted online in the EU between last September 18 and November 10 this year. All entries must also be submitted online via the EU Journalist Award 2011 website at www.journalistaward.stop-discrimination.info.

Final Mini Gig
