While a great fuss is made, and rightly so, every time a case of animal cruelty comes to light, it is indeed surprising to note that everybody, including animal welfare NGOs, seem to turn a blind eye to the horrific conditions under which hundreds of watchdogs on farms, industrial sites and even some residential rooftops are kept.

The movements of these dogs are usually restricted by a chain leash to a perimeter of one or two metres, they often live in squalid conditions and are fed whatever leftovers are available. They simply exist to bark and bare their teeth at any potential intruder. They will never know of any loving care and, of course, they are not going to be micro-chipped as they will never be seen on the street.

Can anything be done to alleviate the lot of these unfortunate creatures?
