As we have seen from this year’s Eurovision song contest, it is not the song or the singer – however, good they may be – which count, but who your neighbours are.

This system of popular voting is unfair, ridiculous, dishonest and treacherous, to say the least. It’s simply a case of “you scratch my back and I will scratch yours”. It must stop.

I ask the Maltese Eurovision organising committee to tell us the result of the judges’ vote, and how Malta’s song fared at that stage, i.e., before the public voted.

The only way to ensure fair play that I can think of is for the votes to be given only by renowned judges and in full view of the audience and televiewers. Until the voting system is changed, we will never stand a chance. Malta’s song should have been in the top 10.
