Customers at The Body Shop got to see slightly more of it than they had bargained for on Sunday morning when a man dropped his trousers to prove he had not stolen anything.

Magistrate Anthony Vella heard the shop’s general manager explain Stephen Nappa, 31, from Valletta, was seen stuffing bottles of “his favourite perfume”, worth €18 each, into his trousers at around 10.30am.

The manager instructed his staff to call the police but by the time he challenged him, Mr Nappa had placed the bottles back.

He told the manager he had not stolen anything and dropped his trousers to prove his innocence.

As a result, the police also filed charges of indecent exposure.

Mr Nappa, who has several theft convictions, had a drug problem, Police Inspector Daniel Zammit told the court, adding that his residence was “covered in syringes”.

Magistrate Anthony Vella jailed the accused for six months over the most recent charges and added an extra two years for breaching a probation order handed down in May.
