May I respectfully correct Peter Mayo’s assumption that the United States does not celebrate workers and hold a Labour Day.
President Grover Cleveland, 1893-1897, signed into federal law the Statutory National Holiday, Labor Day, in 1894.
It is and always has been celebrated on the first Monday in September.
As May 1, as a labour celebration, has been associated with communism and Russia, it is hardly a day Americans would choose.
