Melita 0
Żebbuġ Rangers 0

This was a useful point for Melita in their quest to avoid the drop even though third-bottom side San Ġwann are only six points behind and they have a game in hand.

Judging on their first-half performance, Żebbuġ were worth the three points but they missed a few scoring opportunities as Melita improved after the break to hold on for a point.

Rangers saw more of the ball in the initial stages but it was Melita who threatened first when an Ivan Tufegdzic header from a free-kick was saved by Justin Spiteri.

At the other end, Raimi Bakare’s effort from just inside the box was stopped by Melita keeper Matthew Sapiano.

Catania and Pereira Fernando found space inside the Melita half but the latter shot just wide. A Catania header also rolled inches wide and a minute before the break Pereira Fernando hit badly from a good position.

Melita looked more determined after the break even though they did not create as many chances as they had hoped. On 68 minutes, substitute Francois Guihard ran on to meet a Cornago pass but lost composure in front of goal.

Pereira Fernando did trouble Melita with his runs down the left flank but his inviting balls never reached a Rangers team-mate inside Sapiano’s box.

St George’s 0
Vittoriosa Stars 3

Although St George’s can still avoid the drop this upset to rivals Vittoriosa makes it almost impossible for them to save their status.

Central defender Petat Mrvic was close to opening the score for the Stars but his effort came off the bar with keeper Sean Cini beaten.

Richard Mercieca’s side continued to attack and after a couple of missed chances, they took the lead when Miljan Milivojev scored from a free-kick.

Milivojev nearly made it 2-0 soon after the restart but his shot was blocked by Uwadia.

On 64 minutes the Stars doubled their lead. Carabott found Milivojev on the right flank and his centre was pushed in by the un-marked Duncan Pisani.

The Saints could have reduced the arrears when Ifeanyi dribbled past a defender and crossed inside the area only for Lucky Omerou’s header to be cleared off the line by Andreas Galea.

But more misery laid in store for the Saints late on when Milan Lukic hit an unstoppable drive to beat Cini a third time.

St George’s: S. Cini, I. Uwadia (W. Ifeanyi), E. Amaira (M. Mentosa), H. Vella, R. Mizugashira, G. Gesualdi, M. Brincat, L. Grech, L. Omerou, D. Sammut, K. Abela (K. Tabone).
