I am a great follower of the historical articles that often appear in The Sunday Times of Malta, especially those relating to the times of the Order of St John in Malta by Giovanni Bonello, Albert Ganado and Lino Bugeja.

Recently my good friend Rene’ Chatrand sent me a photo of the funerary statue at the Louvre of Amador de la Porte, Grand Prior of the Order of St John in France who died in 1644.

He was Vice-Admiral of France, Marshal of the camps and armies of His Majesty Louis XIII, governor of Aunis and Saintonge, authority over the ports of La Rochelle and Brouage and the uncle and mentor of the famous Cardinal Richelieu.

Just for my personal interest, can any reader refer me to any particular exploits connected to de la Porte, if he was ever in Malta?
