After winning multiple Olivier and Tony Awards when it had its premiere at the National Theatre in 1979, Amadeus was adapted into an Academy Award-winning film.
A new version of Peter Shaffer’s iconic production, directed by Michael Longhurst and filmed live at the Olivier Theatre in London, is being broadcast tomorrow at St James Cavalier as part of the Spazju Kreattiv programme.
The plot sees how Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart arrives in Vienna, the music capital of the world, and is determined to make a splash. Awestruck by his genius, court composer Antonio Salieri has the power to promote his talent or destroy his name. Seized by obsessive jealousy he begins a war with Mozart, with music, and ultimately, with God.
Lucian Msamati (Luther, Game of Thrones) plays the part of Salieri in this version.
The show features live orchestral accompaniment by Southbank Sinfonia.
The screening takes place tomorrow at St James Cavalier at at 6.30pm. For more information and tickets, visit www.kreattivita.org or call 2122 3200. The show is suitable for those aged over 12.
