Aloysians Zmerc made sure of winning the National League a second year in succession with victory over Swieqi Phoenix last weekend at the University Sports Hall.

This was the sixth time that the Aloysians girls became champions after showing consistency and fighting spirit in most of their matches this season.

Under the guidance of coach Milos Stanisavljevic, Aloysians finished the season with only one loss and one draw in their overall results.

Again, captain Brenda Mamo was a key player in leading the team to success.

Moreover, the addition of experienced Romanian Dana Badea, league top scorer with 58 goals, was also an important factor for the champions to retain their title.

Stanisavljevic said it was only through hard work and team unity that the championship objective could be achieved.

“I want to thank my players and the team’s sponsors for their help throughout the years,” he said.

“Now our aim is to extend our momentum to the KO competition and add another cup to our collection.”

Left-back Janice Bonnici said winning the championship was no mean feat.

“It was far from easy for us to accomplish what we aimed for from the very start,” she reckoned.

“This was a collective effort and we succeeded in bringing the cup home once again.”

Indeed, the team-work mentality and approach motivated each player to give their best for one main aim, that of becoming champions for yet another year.

La Salle Unique and Kavallieri RS2 are still in contention for the runners-up spot. The two teams clash in the final day of the season.

Malta Handball Association president, Louis Borg, presented the trophy to Aloysians captain Mamo at the end of the match.
