Nearly 10 per cent of British adults still go to bed with their teddy bear and more than 70 per cent believe they do not get enough sleep, according to a new survey.

34 per cent of women blamed their partner hogging the duvet for their disturbed sleep

A poll of 3,000 adults found 34 per cent of women blamed their partner hogging the duvet for their disturbed sleep and 54 per cent were kept awake by their loved one’s snoring.

However women still seemed to get the better deal with 21 per cent regularly getting more than eight hours’ sleep compared to just 14 per cent of men.

The survey, commissioned by IKEA, found 57 per cent of respondents lie awake at night worrying about work or money – resulting in 10 per cent checking work e-mails, six per cent waking up their partner if they can’t sleep, 26 per cent listening to soothing music and 18 per cent believing having sex would help.

More than 50 per cent polled blamed a poor mattress for their lack of sleep.

Researchers discovered 72 per cent of Britons took less than 10 minutes to choose a mattress they are likely to sleep on for eight years. A third of those polled made the decision in under five minutes – the same amount of time it takes to pick their lunch.
