Gozitan students will benefit from an increased government allowance of €700,000 that will subsidise their living expenses while studying in Malta.

Gozitans who take up a course at the University of Malta, the Institute of Tourism Studies and the Malta Council of Arts, Science and Technology can benefit from the allowance.

Another €4 million are being allocated to implement various energy and environmental projects and to continue working on the government’s eco-vision project for Gozo.

The fund will be used to start a “vast aid programme” for Gozitan businesses to invest in alternative energy sources. The programme kicks off in 2012 and will last one year.

Finance Minister Tonio Fenech said the €25 million fund allocated for Eco-Gozo would not be “totally absorbed” by 2012 but would shift the balance to the 2013 funds.
