Qormi Poiatti 1
Floriana Young Stars 1

This match was played at a high tempo and with intense commitment by both teams.

Qormi were awarded a penalty corner on eight minutes but were denied going into the lead by Andrew Camilleri who cleared off the line with his goalkeeper beaten.

Three minutes later Young Stars drew first blood when Mark Camilleri slammed a bullet into the net as a result of a penalty corner action.

Chances created were few and far between but on 21 minutes Qormi won a penalty corner and Juan Sarcia shot home to equalise.

The second half turned into a fiery and feisty affair with Young Stars exerting early pressure but Qormi going close through John Williams.

On 53 minutes, Luke Borg Costanzi took on the whole Qormi defence and pushed the ball across the face of the goal but did not find any takers at the far post.

Qormi did not avail themselves of a penalty corner award and, at the other end, Camilleri’s reverse shot shaved the upright.

Laferla White Hart 1
Lightshop Sliema Hotsticks 7

Sliema Hotsticks dominated this game from start to finish, using their possession tactics to the full against a depleted White Hart outfit missing several first team players.

Jonathan Borg shot Hotsticks into the lead early on but it was not until the 21st minute that Alessandro Amore pounced on a rebound off the keeper’s pads to send his team 2-0 up.

White Hart were providing a strong defensive display but then Hotsticks were awarded a penalty stroke and Shawn Grima scored from the spot.

White Hart hit back and Carl Tua netted on the stroke of half-time, leaving Hotsticks to lead 3-1 at the end of the first half.

The second half saw a change of tactics with White Hart pushing a couple of players into midfield while Hotsticks continued to exert pressure down the flanks, providing teasing crosses for their forwards in the centre of the D.

Julian Zahra grabbed Hotsticks’ fourth goal, with Borg scoring his second, and his team’s fifth, three minutes later.

Amore then made it 6-1 and on 68 minutes Grima shot a screamer into the top of the net sending his team into a clear 7-1 victory.

Umpires: John Williams, Reno Cremona.
