A former CEO of the Malta Stock Exchange, Paul J. Spiteri, has been appointed chairman, succeeding Arthur Galea Salomone.

Mr Spiteri – who served as CEO until 2001 under the stewardship of former Finance Minister John Dalli – was yesterday introduced to the staff by Finance Minister Edward Scicluna.

Apart from Mr Spiteri, the new board includes four other men: Daniel Darmanin, Carm Galea, Joseph Azzopardi and Joseph Portelli. This contrasts with the outgoing board, which had two women, in line with EU practice to have woman as 40 per cent of government boards.

Dr Spiteri, a dentist, contested the March election on behalf of the Labour Party.
