The Times of Malta (September 9) reported that the Frenchman who called our President “a bitch” was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment suspended for two years.

Quite right, as no one has the right to use offensive language and call people names, whoever they are.

However, our Labour government is considering the removal of the vilification law (article 163) from the Criminal Code whereby blaspheming and swearing won’t be considered a crime anymore.

I find this rather contradictory. With all due respect to Her Excellency, this would mean that offending a human being in authority is a crime, while offending the Creator of all human beings will not be considered as such anymore.

Our Creator deserves adoration and thanks for all He provides us with. It’s already sickening hearing adults (and sometimes schoolchildren too) swearing.

In such circumstances and whenever possible, I stop and urge these people in a prudent way, to praise God and ask Him for help. To date, I was never asked to mind my own business.

Swearing and blaspheming most unfortunately seem to be in the DNA of some of the Maltese. Imagine if and when the vilification law comes into force!

Let us hope that those who came out with this vile idea see the light and refrain from the shame they are bringing on our country which is already in the descent where values are concerned.
