An off-duty policeman yesterday arrested two men believed to be behind a spate of thefts of gas cylinders in Attard and other towns, the police said.

The policeman spotted a White Toyota which was wanted by the police and tailed it for some two kilometres in his car.

One of the men was observed darting in and out of front gardens, looking for gas cylinders. The car then drove up and two gas cylinders were taken. The thefts are believed to be drug-related, with the men selling the cylinders for cash to buy drugs.

The Mobile Squad helped to make the arrest.
