Alegria Academia de Baile Flamenco’s academic year has come to an end with a party at Razzett l-Antik in Qormi. All students, teachers, family and friends gathered to celebrate the end of a hardworking year.

Academy director Ingrid Sciberras said all students who underwent Alianza Flamenca assessments passed successfully and praised them for their high level of dancing. Certificates of attendance were also awarded to students who attended choreography classes.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of four scholarships. The Dhalia local scholarship was awarded to Sonya Camilleri from Alegria Gozo, who will attend numerous classes to further her technique.

The Comsec International award was presented to a member of Alegria Dance Company, Dael Scerri, who will be attending a course at the annual Flamenco Festival in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain next February. The Puerto Flamenco scholarship was awarded to Katrina Spiteri Bailey, who will be following a course by Francesca Grima next summer. Another award, sponsored by the director of choreography at Alegria, Estelle Bonello Sant, went to Helena Micallef, a loyal and hardworking student who will benefit from a course with Maria del Mar Moreno in Jerez de la Frontera next year.

Alegria will be working on its next performance on November 26 and 27 in Malta and, for the first time in Gozo on December 10. For more details, e-mail alegriamalta@gmail.com.
