A “considerable” amount of undeclared alcoholic drinks were seized from a van which had arrived in Malta from Sicily last Friday and two Italians were charged, the Customs Department said.

It said investigations were sparked by a VAT inspection as the goods were being distributed to a number of establishments by two Italian men.

They were charged in court and admitted to failing to declare the alcohol and evading the duty on the items before being fined €11,172.
