Matthew Galea, technical designer at Alberta Group, and Patrick Borg, project leader, recently attended training overseas by Excova BM Trada.

The two members within the Compartmentation Department attended the course in the UK in preparation for the Q-Mark Fire Door Installation Certification.

Fire and safety is a top priority and the fire doors installation process is a vital factor that will determine how quickly a fire would spread and will minimise risks of life-changing consequences.

Upon completion of the Q-Mark Fire Door Installer Certification, it is expected that the trainees will be certified to approve and install fire doors for which they have demonstrated a good level of competence.

By law, a fire door manufacturer is legally required to demonstrate that their products have the ability to resist a fire from spreading out, however, if they are not properly installed, their fire resistance can be seriously compromised.

The Q- Mark Installation Certification has been designed to reassure end users. By means of this certification, one can aim to achieve an ongoing high standard of installation of fire doors, provide peace of mind that the installer is suitably qualified and demonstrate that the installation meets the required standard.
