Around 100 youngsters from children’s homes around the country will be reaching for the sky next week after being invited to attend the Malta International Airshow as special guests.

A spokesman said the youngsters have been invited as part of the organisers’ commitment to ensuring the airshow benefits and inspires the wider community and the initiative follows on from the performance last year by the We Fly air display team led by a paraplegic Italian pilot.

They will enjoy behind-the-scenes access, including getting to meet some of the performing pilots.

The HSBC Malta foundation is sponsoring the children’s attendance.

This year’s airshow will take place on Saturday and Sunday at Malta International Airport.

For the first time ever in Malta there will be two aerial acrobatics teams performing at the same show, one of them being the very popular Frecce Tricolori. It will be only the fourth time Frecce Tricolori has performed outside Italy this year.

Aircraft from the UK, the US, the Netherlands, Poland, Ireland and Switzerland will also be on show.

Opening times are 10 a.m. till 5.30 p.m. Aerial displays begin at 1.30 p.m. The entrance fee is €12 for adults; under-14s enter for free.
