An Air Malta plane will be flying in formation with the famed British aerobatic team Red Arrows during this month’s airshow.

Captain Martin Ferrando, the pilot who will fly the Air Malta aircraft, described it as “a unique and prestigious” occasion.

The Red Arrows have flown in formation with commercial airlines only a handful of times.

The plane will join the nine jets some six miles out at sea and fly back in formation over Grand Harbour and on to the runway.

Joe Ciliberti, president of the Malta Aviation Society, which organises the air show, said the flypast was a show of trust in Air Malta’s professionalism by the British air force’s aerobatic team.

Mr Ciliberti said that a dedicated app for the show on September 27 and 28 was available for smart phones and tablets that would inform users of the scheduled displays.
