Air Malta will operate charter flights to six regional airports in the UK this summer, the airline said yesterday.

As from May 1, Air Malta will operate weekly charter flights to Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Exeter, Newcastle and Norwich airports. The charter operations to these airports will be in addition to the airline’s regular schedule services to Heathrow and Gatwick, as well as Manchester. These charter services will run until October 30.

“We expect to carry around 48,000 passengers on these services,” chief commercial officer Philip Saunders said.

These charter flights increase accessibility to the islands from regional UK airports and offer travellers the opportunity to reduce travelling time and costs, Mr Saunders added.

These services were made possible following the support received from the respective airports as well as from tour operators and travel trade partners in the area, he said.

Mr Saunders said these operations further confirmed the airline’s commitment to boost incoming tourism to Malta from the UK – Malta’s primary tourism market.
