Air Malta chief executive officer Louis Giordimaina has stepped down, just over eight months into his appointed.

“I have been informed that Mr Giordimaina has resigned from the post for personal reasons,” Tourism Minister Edward Zammit Lewis said last night.

Mr Giordimaina could not be reached for comment.

Sources close to the airline attributed his resignation to “differences” with Maria Micallef, who was appointed Air Malta chairman in July.

Mr Giordimaina, an aircraft engineer by profession, was appointed to serve as designate CEO last November and assumed office in January, succeeding Peter Davies.

Times of Malta is informed that a number of other top airline managers tendered their resignation over the past weeks.
