Eight of Aesop’s fables are the inspiration for this year’s 14th edition of The Dance Workshop’s annual school show called Not Just Monkey Business.

“Besides the fact that this is an original production, which has never been staged before, the idea behind drawing inspiration from some of Aesop’s fables for this year’s annual show was that these short and simple fables, written 2,500 years ago, still carry universal lessons that are applicable to our lives today,” said Theresa Lungaro-Mifsud, principal of The Dance Workshop.

Some fables will be interpreted literally by the younger dancers who will be accompanied by older, more experienced students. Others will have their moral interpreted abstractly by the more experienced students.

As in past performances, Not Just Monkey Business will feature some of the best dancers on the island including Pamela Kerr, Diane Portelli, Maria Gingell, Franny Bartolo, Nadine Friggieri, Keith Micallef, Jade Farrugia, Sue Vassallo, Florinda Camilleri and Karl Cini.

Upcoming stars like Diane Briscoe, Michela Scicluna, Martina Fenech and Yasmin Schembri will also take part.

Christina Cefai, Colin Micallef, Yasmine Nuvoli, Karl Cini and Andrew Bartolo will be narrating the fables.

The show takes place on March 26 and 27 at St Agatha School’s auditorium in Rabat. Tickets will be available from Saturday from The Dance Workshop or online at www.biljetti.com.
