With reference to the article ‘Nexia Int. distances itself from Panamagate’ (March 23), the Ministry for Sustainable Development, the Environment and Climate Change clarifies that the study on the waste management plan was assigned with prior approval of the Ministry for Finance to the economics and EU affairs specialist advisory services of Nexia BT, then headed by Gordon Cordina.

As specified in parliamentary question 23499, this management plan covers the provision of advisory services on the impact of the road map suggested by the Commission and the design of alternative policy measures. Cordina, whose qualifications and experience are undoubted, was chosen by the ministry in view of his proven track record in various waste-related projects over the years.

Readers should be informed that, in spite of Cordina’s subsequent voluntary dissolution from Nexia BT, there is an agreement between both companies for both entities, including Cordina’s, to remain engaged in this particular assignment.
