Alternattiva Demokratika has joined the European Greens in calling for a public investment scheme and long-term policies on clean and renewable energy.
The call follows a report published on Friday by the panel of scientists of the United Nation’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
Ralph Cassar, AD spokesperson for energy, industry and transport, said: “Moving towards a fossil fuel-free and renewable energy economy will mean Malta will invest in clean air for its citizens and reduce dependence on foreign sources of energy, leaving more money in the local economy. This will also mean the creation of new jobs in the clean energy sector.”
Mr Cassar said long-term greenhouse reduction targets and policies should be adopted to ensure long-term investor certainty and promote job security and good job conditions in the sector.
