A 21-year-old man from the Ivory Coast was yesterday remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to raping a 15-year-old girl at a house in Gozo.

The man, who is not being named to protect the identity of the girl, is understood to have briefly dated her before the incident took place on the night of April 12.

He was also charged with violent indecent assault on April 21 and offending public morals.

Police Inspector Bernard Spiteri prosecuted.
