A Libyan man who dodged the police for several months was finally apprehended and accused of trying to kill a friend with a penknife last year.

Mohammed Zweit, 22, from Ġzira, pleaded not guilty to trying to kill Musa El Tuba last November 5 in Qawra.

The victim staggered to the Qawra police station shortly after being stabbed and was rushed to hospital. He was in critical condition but recovered and identified the accused, Police Inspector Chris Pullicino told the court.

He said that the accused was in Malta on an expired visa and moved to different places to avoid the police.

In pleas on bail, Mr Pullicino said that the accused had tried to contact the victim.

Magistrate Neville Camilleri remanded the accused in custody.
