It is with regret that I feel the need to have to write and draw attention to what is happening at the citadel in Gozo.
Since its reconstruction, the place has become a real ordeal to visit, especially for those who are not young any more. The hills are steeper and there are too many steps, not to mention that one has to park quite far from the cathedral, thus making walking in the pouring rain and strong winds a very good reason to just refrain from going to the cathedral at all.
Our only relief was the lift that was installed and which can be reached after climbing the first hill. To those of us who go to the cathedral every day, this lift was an incentive to make the effort. But, alas, it is constantly either out of order or shut off.
I am asking the authorities or whoever is in charge to please solve this problem as soon as possible. First of all, it looks very bad on us when tourists want or need to use it and, secondly, one has to remember that if we want the citadel in Gozo to be enjoyed it has to be accessible to all.
